Police: Mom arrested for DUI while taking son to school

ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) -

An Edgemoor woman was arrested for DUI and child endangerment after refusing to stop for blue lights while taking her son to school, according to a report from the Rock Hill Police Department.

The incident began Friday, February 22, just after 7:30 a.m. when an RHPD Officer clocked a Nissan Quest minivan driving 40 mph in a 25 mph school zone on Oakdale Road. According to the report, all school zone lights were on and flashing.

The officer then attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop for the blue lights and sirens.

After leading the officer down several roads, the driver finally pulled into a driveway on Strait Road.

When the officer approached the vehicle the driver, later identified as Deborah Arnett, 52, opened the door to speak to him. After being asked why she would not pull over, Arnett stated that she was trying to get her 10-year-old son, who was in the vehicle, to school.

A sobriety test was administered, and Arnett showed several signs of impairment. The officer then searched the minivan, and found a water bottle with beer in it, the report states.

Arnett refused a breath test, stating she had "too much last night, and nothing to eat."

Arnett was arrested and charged with failure to stop for blue light and siren, child endangerment, and DUI.
