SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - Investigators in Spartanburg County are trying to figure out why a man jumped from a truck just before he was struck and killed by a car.
The coroner's office said 39-year-old Gene Pearson Jr. of Inman died at the hospital shortly after being injured Friday night.
Witnesses told troopers that Pearson appeared to jump from a truck on a road not far from U.S. Highway 176 in Inman.
Authorities say Pearson was then struck by a 2007 Cadillac driven by an 80-year-old man.
Troopers say no charges have been filed in the incident.
