KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) -
A Blaney Elementary School student has been removed from school until a disciplinary hearing can be held after Kershaw County School District officials say he brought a broken pellet gun to school.
According to district spokesperson Mary Anne Byrd, the 8-year-old student brought the broken gun with him to campus just before 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Byrd says another student reported the item to the principal, and the principal confiscated the gun before the student entered the building.
Officials say the student demonstrated that the trigger was broken and the gun was not loaded.
A similar incident happened in Sumter County just a few weeks ago when a 6-year-old also brought a broken plastic gun to school.
The girl was initially expelled from school for the incident, but she was reinstated a short time later.
Back in Kershaw County, district officials have not said when they have scheduled the 8-year-old's disciplinary hearing.
