ALBANY, GA -
With yet another region title in the balance the Deerfield-Windsor boys crushed their way through the GISA region 3-AAA tournament and in the championship game against a very upset minded Calvary Christian the Knights used a strong 4th quarter to get the job done 65-44.
But much of the talk after the win was about this being just the beginning of what the Knights hope is a very deep state championship run after an early exit last year. The game was tight pretty much until the 4th quarter so head coach Gordy Gruhl very adamant about the team tightening up their belts and getting ready for what may be a scrappy state championship tournament next week.
Gruhl said "Everybody is stepping up. Everybody is contributing to what it takes for us to win and that's what you good basketball teams do so hopefully we are going to continue to get better. We need to take it up another notch."
"We won region last year and we got put out in the state early but this time we have to go out and do what we have to do. We have to focus on what's now and what's left and worry about next week, next week." Said senior Ramello Carter.
Knights play Weber on Thursday.
The Lady Knights made it an all Deerfield-Windsor region championship after a close 32-29 win over Tiftarea. The Lady Knights will also be the top seed in the state tournament starting next week.
