An East Texas daughter says she feared for the safety of her mother and knew something was wrong when she could not reach her.
26-year-old Eddie Baker is charged with murdering 45-year-old Tana Warren. Baker was arrested Wednesday night just north of Gilmer after Sheriff's deputies say he stabbed two other people and tried to set their travel trailer on fire. Deputies captured Baker after he fled from the scene where he had stabbed two people off Ginger road.
"They chased him probably close to a mile, maybe more, before they located him and placed him in custody," says Freddie Fitzgerald of the Upshur County Sheriffs Office.
Shortly after Baker was caught, a check welfare call came in to the Sheriff's Office that Warren had not been seen in some time. That call was made by Jeannie Creswell, Tana Warren's daughter.
"I filed a report that she was missing; I was up at the jail house for a while doing this. No one knew where she was and I knew something was wrong," Jeannie says.
Investigators later found Tana's body in Baker's home.
"Through the investigation, Eddie Baker was also charged with her murder," Fitzgerald says.
"We're devastated. Just a sweet woman, she had 3 kids... known her a long time, just a sweet woman. Surprised anything like that could happen in our neighborhood," said Warren family friend Todd Neighbors.
The 26-year-old Baker and Warren were living together as a couple, but Jeannie says she knew from the beginning something wasn't right.
"He wasn't right, and I tried to get my mom away from him so many times. I just don't know why he would do something like that," says Jeannie.
It leaves heartbroken friends and family wondering how it could have come to this point, and why.
"I would have never thought someone could do such a cruel thing. She was a good woman and she didn't deserve that," Jeannie says.
"We're just devastated and hope he's prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," Neighbors says.
The two victims who were stabbed are expected to recover. Warren's family is trying to set up a fund to help them pay for her funeral.
