RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Firefighters say a fire that consumed two homes in Richland County Thursday was caused by an electrical short in an outlet.

At about 5 p.m. Thursday, firefighters were called to the two homes in the 500 block of Kelly Mill Road.

Brick Lewis with the Columbia Fire Department says one of the homes was occupied, and the other was vacant. Lewis says the vacant home was engulfed in flames when the first units arrived at the scene.

Fire investigators say the fire started from an electrical short in an outlet in the unoccupied home.

Three people were displaced from the occupied house.

No injuries have been reported.

The Columbia Fire Department had to close Kelly Mill Road between Bookman and Bombing Range Roads for several hours.
