RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A log truck driver who crashed into another vehicle Wednesday morning on McCords Ferry Road died from a heart attack after getting out his vehicle, according to the coroner.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Louis F. Grabowski, 48, of Summterton was driving an 18-wheel log truck that crossed the center line and struck a Honda Fit around 11 a.m. near the Highway 601 bridge over the Congaree River.

Watts said both drivers were able to get out of their vehicles on their own, just before their vehicles caught fire.

Grabowski then suffered a fatal heart attack from the stress related to the crash, according to Watts. He died at the scene.

The driver of the second car was not seriously injured.

McCords Ferry Road was closed in both directions for over eight hours while emergency crews worked to clean up the scene.
