Truck driver killed in crash on Interstate 20 identified

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The Richland County Coroner has identified a truck driver killed in a crash Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 20.

Coroner Gary Watts says 55-year-old Heyward Quattlebaum of Irmo died at the scene on I-20 at the 83 mile marker. An autopsy conducted Wednesday confirms Quattlebaum died from trauma associated with the crash.

The crash shut down the interstate for hours.

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say a 2010 Mack Truck was headed westbound on the I-20 when it hit a guard rail and then veered off the side of the road before flipping on its side near the Spears Creek Church Road exit.

Authorities say the accident happened just after 6:20pm Tuesday, but crews worked well into the overnight hours to clean-up the crash. SCHP says the tanker truck normally carries propane gas, but it was empty at the time of the accident.
