WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
A Columbia man will be taken to jail after receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in a deadly crash police say he caused late Sunday night.
The collision took place around 11:30 just west of the Gervais Street Bridge in West Columbia.
According to West Columbia Police Chief Dennis Tyndall, James Mason Snell, 24, lost control of the westbound vehicle he was driving as he was trying to turn right onto US 378 from Meeting Street. Police say he entered oncoming traffic on Sunset Blvd. and broadsided another vehicle.
As a result of the collision, a passenger in Snell's vehicle died, according to investigators. One person in the other vehicle was also injured.
Authorities have not yet released the deceased victim's identity.
Snell was charged with felony DUI after the collision. After receiving medical care, he will be transported to the Lexington County Detention Center.
