Investigators working "good leads" in murder of Ridgeville man

RIDGEVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office says they have some good leads into the murder of a 64-year-old Ridgeville man who was gunned down in his back yard last week.

Dorchester County Chief Deputy Sam Richardson told Reporter Harve Jacobs investigators were working to follow up on those leads, but no suspects have been identified yet.

On Sunday, Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet said Jimmy Edwards, of 374 Ridge Road, was shot in the back of the head three times between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. last Friday.

"The family is hurting bad. His daughter is hurting so bad and her heart is just busting wide open because she loves her daddy so much," said relative, Debbie Grooms Kostick.

According to a release, Edwards' family says the man was on his way home when they heard two gun shots outside around 10:50 p.m. Family members later walked outside to find Edwards on the ground in the back yard.

"I didn't like the sight that I saw. It was disturbing and I knew if my wife saw it, she would've went to the hospital," said son-in-law, Endsley Grooms.

Nisbet says the victim suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the eye.

Relatives of Edwards are left confused and saddened; they say he didn't have any known enemies.

"The person that did this obviously needs help. They're a twisted, sick individual, evil. We have to find this person because whoever did this, they would hurt somebody else as well," said Debbie Grooms Kostick.
