Who else? SEC has most players in Super Bowl XLVII

(RNN) – The Southeastern Conference has dominated college football for the past decade, so it should come as no surprise that it is also the most represented conference in this year's Super Bowl.

Nineteen players from schools currently in the SEC are on the active rosters for the 49ers and Ravens entering Sunday's game. Additionally, five of the teams' coaches are from SEC schools as well. The only SEC school not represented in the game is Kentucky.

The SEC outdistances all other conferences, including a combined list of all non-FBS schools. If coaches are added to that list, however, the small schools outpace the SEC by a 33-24 margin.

The Big Ten comes in a close second with 15 players and five coaches, followed by the Pac-12 with 13 players and four coaches.

The top schools with players in the game are Miami (5), Ohio State (4 – all on the 49ers), Oregon (4), Texas (4), Marshall (4) and Utah (4). The teams in this year's national championship game have a combined three players. Alabama's Terrance Cody and Courtney Upshaw both play for the Ravens, and Notre Dame's Ian Williams plays for the 49ers. Neither school has an alumnus coaching the game.

But you don't have to attend a big school to make the big game. The University of Delaware has two alumni – Joe Flacco and Gino Gradkowski – suiting up for Baltimore.

Tiny Catawba College and Glenville State University each have two alumni coaching in the game, Washburn University and the University of Massachusetts are represented by a player and a coach, service academies Navy and Air Force each have a representative and two participants hold Ivy League degrees – one from Harvard, and one from Princeton.

No Division I FBS conference lacks a player representative.
