Perspective: A WIS Editorial on National Wear Red Day

Posted: Updated:

Heart disease is the #1 killer in America claiming over 2000 lives a day. Heart disease is particularly deadly for women, surpassing deaths from all cancers combined.

The American Heart Association invites you to join in the Go Red for Women movement whose mission is to increase awareness and prevention of this killer disease. One way you can show your support is to participate in National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 1st. By sporting your red, you will help bring attention to the Go Red challenge.

The AHA suggests other steps you can take to support of their mission:

1) Share the truth about heart disease with 5 women

2) Join the Go Red Challenge by uploading photos of yourself in red to Facebook, Instagram or by email

3) Adopt a few simple habits that will put you on the road to a heart-healthy lifestyle. Tips can be found on the Go red for women.org website under live healthy

(goredforwomen.org/home/live-healthy)

Stand strong with us on Feb 1 National Wear Red Day…check your heart health, educate your friends and family, and plan on wearing red to show your commitment and passion for fighting heart disease.

That's my perspective.
