Pee Dee area schools dismiss early ahead of storms

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Out of an abundance of precaution, schools in the Pee Dee area are dismissing early before a line of possibly severe weather strikes.

Superintendent Robert Sullivan Jr. for Florence County School District Two says all the schools in their district will dismiss at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Additionally, all afternoon activities have been canceled.

Sullivan says some busses run double routes and if dismissal remained at 3 p.m., some may still be out as the bad weather comes in. He says dismissal for after school credit is typically around 5:45 p.m.

Florence County School District has canceled all after school activities and school functions for Wednesday afternoon.

Busses from Johnsonville Elementary School will leave at 1:45 p.m. Johnsonville Middle School busses will leave at 2:45 p.m. Johnsonville High School busses will leave at 2:30 p.m.

Car riders in FCSD Five will dismiss as soon as busses depart.

Darlington County Schools will dismiss students at the regular time Wednesday. However, district spokeswoman Audrey Childers says due to the potential for wind gusts, buses will be operating at a slower pace than usual and students may arrive home 15 to 30 minutes later than normal.

All after school and evening activities – including all practices, tutoring, academic and athletic events – have been canceled for the schools in the Darlington County School District. YMCA after school care will continue as usual.
