COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Police are looking for an armed man who robbed a Columbia pharmacy Monday night.

Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott hopes somebody recognizes the suspect in surveillance pictures released late Tuesday afternoon.

The man is accused of robbing the Rite Aid store located at the intersection of Broad River Road and Bush River Road.

Police say the suspect walked up to the pharmacy counter around 6 p.m. and demanded several controlled substances from the pharmacist.

Witnesses tell police that the man lifted his sweatshirt to show what appeared to be a handgun tucked in his waistband.

Police said the pharmacist complied with the robber. Nobody was hurt.

The suspect is described as a white male, who was last seen wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt with the words "Appalachian State" embroidered in yellow or gold on the front, blue jeans, clear latex gloves, a light-colored baseball cap, and a surgical mask partially covering his face.

Scott encourages citizens with information about this incident to call, text or submit online, their anonymous tip to Crimestoppers in any of the following ways: Call toll-free 1-888-CRIME-SC, Text to CRIMES (274637) and mark the beginning of the message with "TIPSC," followed by the tip information, or go to: www.midlandscrimestoppers.com and click on the red "Submit a tip" tab.
