CLARENDON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A reckless driving investigation in Clarendon County ended with a man shot several times with a Taser and a sheriff's deputy injured from fighting with the suspect.

Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett says one of his deputies suffered a minor concussion after fighting with Sean Jarvis Tuesday night.

Garrett says it started when his deputy was talking with Jarvis about a reckless driving investigation at a service station off Interstate 95 around 7:00 p.m. Garrett says Jarvis got in his truck and sped away down Highway 301.

The deputy then began to pursue Jarvis. As they traveled down Highway 301, Jarvis slammed on the brakes and the deputy ran into him, according to Garrett. Jarvis told the deputy he was trapped in the car and EMS was called in to help. When the deputy went back to check on him, Garrett says Jarvis began punching the deputy.

More deputies arrived, and Garrett says Jarvis had to be shot with a Taser three times before they were able to subdue him. The deputies also used pepper spray on him.

Garrett says they suspect Jarvis was on drugs during the time of the incident.

The arrest report says Jarvis threatened to kill officers several times.

The injured deputy had to go to the hospital for treatment but he'll be back at work Friday.  Sean Jarvis also went to the hospital but is now being held at the Clarendon County Detention Center.
