Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) January 24, 2013
On January 24, 2013, Linus Bike, a commuter bikes manufacturer, affirms the community and health benefits behind a proposed bicycle trail in Watertown, WI, as reported by the Daily Union.
According to the Daily Union, a meeting commenced on January 9th in Watertown, Wisconsin, to discuss the proposal of a bike trial that will connect Watertown to Waterloo. In the article Joe Nehmer, the Jefferson County Parks Department director, explains that the meeting gave citizens the opportunity to plan and discuss their opinions on the bike trail proposal. The Daily Union reports that the majority of citizens proposed expanding on an on-the-road route that was built in 1996; the proposal will make the existing bike route safer and extend west toward Waterloo.
Ed Freer, of Smith Group JJR, discussed possible proposals and, according the article, he explained that “bike trails would result in an economic gain for the area. Trail users might patronize taverns, restaurants and retail businesses, in turn helping boost the tax base and community growth.”
The article also affirms the public’s interest in the bike trail, stating that 70 people showed up on January 8th at Watertown Senior Center to discuss the possibilities for the proposal. While many citizens were concerned over costs, Freer confirmed that “as much public funding and grant monies as possible would be used for the project.”
According to Jason Latty, sales manager for popular commuter bikes company Linus Bike, the bike path will have a great effect on the community in the long run, regardless of cost. “As Mr. Freer explained, by winding bike trails throughout the community, consumers will be introduced to local businesses more frequently. This will help to boost the community’s economy as well as help the local environment by cutting down on car and bus transportation,” says Latty. “It’s also important not to sacrifice safety. By thoroughly planning the proposal and respecting the opinion of the community, the bike path can be as safe and effective as possible.”
