ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) - A pregnant Orangeburg woman has been charged in connection with a stabbing death Tuesday at an apartment in the city.

Police have charged Natalie Mitchell, 29, with murder and possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute within the proximity of a school.

Investigators say she stabbed her boyfriend, Cameron Hanton, 23, during a domestic dispute on Douglas MacArthur Street Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the home shortly before 9 a.m. after getting a report of a domestic dispute. Officers found Hanton on the kitchen floor with a knife beside him.

Mitchell told police that Hanton has placed the barrel of a gun inside her mouth during an argument shortly before she broke free, retrieved a knife and stabbed him in the chest, according to an incident report.

Mitchell, according to witnesses, then told neighbors that Hanton was having a seizure, the report stated.

Orangeburg County Deputy Coroner Sean Fogle said Hanton died Tuesday morning. An autopsy was scheduled Wednesday to determine the cause of death.

It's unclear what started the dispute.

Mitchell's attorney said in court on Wednesday that she is five months pregnant. She is being held at the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center.

According to the Times and Democrat, the incident is the city's first homicide in over two years.
