Topper's Rhum to create foundation for murdered Mt. Pleasant couple

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Before a Mount Pleasant couple was brutally murdered, they invested heavily in a rum factory on the Island of St. Maarten. The rum just hit store shelves in America this week.

It's called Topper's Rhum, named after Mike and Thelma Kings' business partner, St. Maarten restaurant owner, Topper Daboul.

Prior to being brutally stabbed to death in their St. Maarten home last September , the Kings went in with Daboul on the rum factory.

According to Topper's Rhum's website, proceeds from the sale of each bottle of rum will eventually go towards a foundation that will be in couple's name. The foundation's primary goal will be to help those whose loved ones have suffered tragedies abroad.

When reached for comment, Daboul deferred to the King family, who said they plan on issuing a statement on the case next week.

28-year-old Meyshane Johnson, 20-year-old Jamal Jefferson Woolford and 17-year-old Jeremiah Mills remain in custody accused of the King murders.

The trial for the three suspects has been scheduled for April 8, according to St. Maarten Solicitor Taco Stein.
