160 years in jail for 10 defendants in drug ring

Ten people have been convicted and sentenced to over 160 years in prison for their roles in a "large drug conspiracy" in Lexington County, according to US Attorney Bill Nettles.

The US Attorney's office says all 10 defendants were from Batesburg-Leesville and Columbia, and they were convicted on charges of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine, money laundering, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of  firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes.

Officials identified the leader of the operation as Antonio Dupree Williams. Investigators said Williams would purchase one to five kilograms of cocaine and would have it converted to crack for distribution.

Investigators believed the conspiracy involved up to 100 kilograms of the drug.

FBI wiretaps and other forms of investigation provided officials with enough evidence to convict the group.

Williams alone received 292 months in prison.
