COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

South Carolinians may be huge fans of cat videos on the Internet, but the state ranks low on the list for cat ownership, according to a study from the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Their report says nearly 28 percent of households in the state own a cat, putting South Carolina at 42nd for cat ownership.

Rhode Island, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, New Jersey, and Utah all rank slightly lower than the Palmetto State.

Meanwhile, Vermont sits on top of the cat castle with almost fifty percent of homes owning a feline.

Their research goes on to say that there are 74 million cats in the US verses just 70 million dogs.
