Pitbulls rescued from dogfighting operation need help

Posted: Updated:

One week ago, a group of pitbulls rescued from a dogfighting operation were living a nightmare. Now, they are on the mend, but they still need help.

The last time we saw the dogs, they were huddled in cages and seized by the sheriff.

Sharon Jones and her staff at the Walter Crowe Animal Shelter have brought the animals back from hell. Including the ones who are too young to understand.

"I'm extremely happy with how they're coming along," said Jones. "It's amazing how well they're doing."

But it hasn't been easy. The small shelter has had to make room for their new guests in an already small and outdated building. They're taking donations for a new, larger facility, but that's at least a year away.

"We don't like to put our dogs outside, so it's really putting us in a bind," said Jones.

Jones is looking for foster families to take some of their other dogs for just a few weeks. That's at least until they can get the pitbulls taken care of. They're almost ready to go.

"If anyone is interested, they can come down and put an application in on a dog and work with us through the rehabilitation," said Jones.
