CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - It's Restaurant Week in South Carolina, and the event has proven a good deal for both restaurants and diners over the past three years.
Restaurants statewide offer promotions to attract new diners during what is traditionally 1 of the slowest times for the state's $15 billion tourism industry.
If numbers are any indication, restaurant week has proven to be a success. There were 109 restaurants that participated in the first season. This year, that number has more than doubled to 220. The week continues through next Sunday.
The event has proven so popular that restaurants in Charleston have organized a second restaurant week each September, another relatively slow time for tourism.
