ELGIN, SC (WIS) -

An Elgin man is accused of shooting his granddaughter's boyfriend after an argument he had with the victim earlier in the day.

Kershaw County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 69-year-old Heyward Jacobs after being called to his home on Arrow Wood Dr. at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday. Deputies say Jacobs shot a man who was dating Jacobs' granddaughter during an argument over a truck.

Deputies say there had been an argument over the truck Jacobs' granddaughter was driving, and when she and the victim arrived at the house on Arrow Wood Dr., where the granddaughter also lived, Jacobs pulled a handgun and shot the victim in the chest.

Investigators say the victim's girlfriend drove him to the hospital.  Initial reports say the bullet did not enter the chest cavity. Deputies say the victim is expected to be released from the hospital within the day.

Jacobs is charged with attempted murder and is awaiting a bond hearing at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
