LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -
A Swansea High School student was arrested Friday after he was found to be in possession of a flash grenade at school.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Devan James Foote, 18, of Gaston has been charged with carrying a weapon on school property.
Investigators say Foote showed the inoperable flash bang grenade to another student, who then informed a school administrator about the device.
The
school administrator removed Foote from a classroom and informed the school
resource officer about the incident, deputies said. The school resource officer later arrested Foote.
The
officer found no evidence that Foote brought the device to school in order to harm anyone or threaten to harm
anyone, Metts said. It appears that Foote brought the flash bang grenade to
school in order to show it off, according to the sheriff.
Lexington County School District Four officials have not determined yet what disciplinary action Foote might face.
Foote was being held
on Friday at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond
hearing.
