WASHINGTON, DC (WIS) -
South Carolina 3rd district Congressman Jeff Duncan is comparing the Obama administration to a "dictatorship" after word came from Washington that the White House is exploring executive orders in response to the recent wave of high-profile shootings.
"The Founding Fathers never envisioned Executive Orders being used to
restrict our Constitutional rights. We live in a republic, not a
dictatorship," said Duncan's statement.
Duncan says the president should not be able to act alone in pursuing policy changes to the nation's gun laws.
The recent shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut moved President Barack Obama to push for legislative action in Congress.
However, Duncan says he is against any legislative proposal that would mean more gun control.
"I will use every means at my disposal to combat the agenda of the
Executive branch to undermine our Second Amendment rights," continued Duncan. "I will also
fight any legislative action that is taken to implement more gun
control. Americans don't want their Second Amendment freedoms restricted
in any way and I will continue to fully support the right to bear arms
for all law abiding citizens."
