South Carolina's newly-appointed Senator Tim Scott made his first public appearance in Columbia as a US Senator Monday.
He stopped at Seawell's on Rosewood Dr. to listen to concerns of South Carolinians as part of a statewide tour. His message focused on the economy and increasing opportunity for everyone.
Governor Haley appointed Scott, a Lowcountry congressman, to replace Senator Jim DeMint.
"(I) have more time to do committee work," said Scott, describing the differences between working as a representative and working as a senator.
"And I think the other thing that will be different of course will be the appointments, Secretary of State, Defense will be different than who we do in the house as well as Supreme Court justices if we have an opportunity to do that in the next few years."
DeMint resigned in 2012 to head up a conservative think tank.
There will be a special election to fill Scott's congressional seat in May.
