AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -
The Georgia Southwestern men just seemed to dig themselves a whole they never got out of. The Canes dropped its second Peach Belt game of the season 84-77 at home against Young Harris. The Canes cut a 16-point deficit down to three but could not get over the hump and suffered its third-straight loss.
Matt Shaw was one of the few bright spots for GSW coming off his first career double-double, Shaw led the Hurricanes with 24 points, on 12 of 18 shooting, and a game-high nine rebounds. Jamon Hawkins added his second-consecutive night of at least 20 points, finishing with 20 on 7 of 12 shooting. Arnett chipped in 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.
The Canes will play at Francis Marion on January 12th.
Lady Canes roll
Meanwhile, the story much different for the Lady Canes. GSW topped Young Harris 97-89 with a great performance from Shaniece Sheffield who had a team high 20 points. Freshman forward Jasmine McSwain coupled her 10 first half points with a pair of well timed three pointers in the second to finish with 16 points on the afternoon.
The 97 points was the most a GSW team scored since December 4, 2011, when the Hurricanes posted 101 points in a 101-57 victory against Montevallo.
The Lady Canes will also play at Francis Marion on January 12th.
