Cayce police chief's guns stolen from car

Charles McNair Charles McNair

Weapons owned by the Cayce Department of Public Safety's police chief were stolen from his car at his home, according to DPS spokesperson Lt. Jeffrey Simmons.

Simmons says the thief broke into Chief Charles McNair's car sometime between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

Among the items stolen in the case are a .40 caliber Glock handgun, a Remington 12-gauge pump action shotgun, and a $600 bullet proof vest.

Cayce Police are investigating how the thief managed to enter the car because there were no signs of forced entry. They are currently processing the car and the scene for evidence.

Simmons says he's not aware of any policy that deals with employees leaving weapons inside vehicles. He says the department "recommends" they secure weapons in the trunk if they don't take them inside home.
