The Richland County Coroner's Office says a woman extracted from a burning home Thursday morning died at the hospital.

Gary Watts identified the woman as 52-year-old Barbara Y. Floyd. Watts says she died in the emergency room of Palmetto Health Richland due to complications from the fire.

Columbia Fire Department spokesman Brick Lewis says the fire happened around 7:15 a.m. on Chappelle Street in Columbia. That is near Farrow Road and Highway 277.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the home, according to Lewis. He says they received information that a woman lived in the home.

Two dogs were also at the home at the time of the fire were uninjured.

Investigators estimate the damages to be worth at leased $50,0000, and a cause of fire is under investigation.
