COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
Tucked away far from the noise of New Year's celebrations, Charlie and Kelly Serafine welcomed a child into the world around 1:20 a.m.
"It's still very surreal, said Serafine. "I don't know if has really it's sunk in yet. I think it will once get home."
He's not only their first child, but the Midlands' as well. Weighing in at 7 pounds and 14 ounces, Kane Scott Serafine is the official New Year's baby of 2013.
"We weren't expecting him so soon, but things started really going yesterday," said Serafine. "They really picked up. We knew he was going to be here sooner than later."
Serafine says they had each other first, and now they have Kane, which makes everything. Life has forever changed in an instant, but in a good way.
"I cried harder than he did when he came in," said Serafine. "You know, I am just so excited for the changes that will be brought about in my life and our life."
Kelly says her labor of love came the old-fashioned way -- the Serafines opted for a childbirth without drugs at the Convenant Birth Center in West Columbia.
What they have is a new life to cherish and watch blossom.
