LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A Gaston man is accused of stealing parts from construction equipment to sell for scrap metal.

Lexington County Sheriff's deputies arrested 48-year-old James Padgett at his home on Sturkie Ln. Friday.  Padgett is charged with three counts of burglary and three counts of grand larceny.

Investigators say twice in December, Padgett stole metal parts from construction equipment in a warehouse in West Columbia. The parts were worth about $46,000.

After taking the metal parts, investigators say Padgett sold them for recycling at Mid-Carolina Recycling & Steel near Columbia. He received $2,300 for the stolen metal.

Padgett is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center on $60,000 bail.
