Deputies investigate deadly shooting outside bar

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Richland County Sheriff's deputies have charged a man with murder after a fight turned deadly outside a bar early Saturday morning.

Deputy Curtis Wilson says 51-year-old Calvert Myers got into an argument with a his niece inside Tony's Lounge on Congaree Rd. at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.  Myers, his niece, and her boyfriend were thrown out of the bar and deputies say the fight continued in the parking lot.

Wilson says Myers pushed his niece to the ground and when her boyfriend, 37-year-old Cornelius Green,  stepped in to defend her, Myers pulled a gun and shot Green.

After he was shot, Wilson says the Green beat Myers until bystanders could stop the fight.

Green was taken to the hospital where he died from what the coroner described as multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Myers was taken to the hospital with injuries that Wilson described as non-life threatening.  He is charged with murder and will be taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center once he is released from the hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
