MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A prized bird is back at home in a North Myrtle Beach mini golf course after he went missing before Christmas.
When Bob Detwiler, owner of Hawaiian Rumble Mini Golf arrived at his store to open for business on the morning of Dec. 23, he realized one of his prized birds was gone.
According to Detwiler and his staff, "Jessy", his favorite cockatoo, had been stolen. Staff members say the other birds were acting a bit strange, without Jessy being there.
Detwiler said "She was the leader of them all. She had the nicest personality. She would perform for the kids and dance and laugh."
Bob Detwiler filed a report with the North Myrtle Beach Police Department, but mostly, he said, he just wanted his bird back.
New reports show the bird was stolen from its cage after two hours of wrestling when two people broke in that night. And with information from an informant, police tracked down the bird in North Carolina and returned it to its owner on New Year's Day.
Jessy is an all white cockatoo and has been with Detwiler for about 15 years. She is one of seven parrots that can be seen in the store.
