COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
A bill filed in the state House of Representatives would allow school employees with a concealed weapons permit to bring a firearm on to campus.
The bill, filed by Florence Republican Rep. Phillip Lowe, would allow employees to bring the weapons provided they keep them concealed when not in use and provided they give a written notification to the principal of the particular school where the weapon will be carried.
Other regulations in the bill include using only "frangible bullets" to prevent ricochets, completing biennial certification courses by SLED, and showing no history of violence by the worker's employer.
The bill is only one of many bills filed in State Houses around the country following the deadly shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut that killed 20 students between the ages of 6 and 7 and six faculty members were killed by a 20-year-old gunman.
Debate on the bill will begin in the January 2013 legislative session.
