SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A former leader in the Ku Klux Klan is coming to Spartanburg to give a message of racial reconciliation.
Johnny Lee Clary will speak at 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday at Truth Chapel World Evangelism Fellowship Church.
Clary will talk about how he was raised in a family filled with racism and anger and joined the KKK after his mother abandoned him and his father committed suicide when he was 14.
Clary spent 16 years with the KKK, rising to Grand Dragon and Imperial Wizard before leaving the group. He says he had thoughts of suicide before deciding to commit his life to Jesus Christ.
Clary now crosses the country and the world giving a message of tolerance and love.
