The South Carolina Highway Patrol is looking for a driver who hit a moped and drove away Wednesday evening near Gaston, leaving the operator seriously injured.

According to troopers, the collision happened on US 321 near Ball Park Road around 8:25 p.m.

Investigators say an unknown vehicle struck the moped in the rear and fled the scene.

The 31-year-old operator of the moped was taken to Richland Memorial Hospital. His condition is not known, but troopers on Thursday described his injuries as serious. He was wearing a helmet at the time of impact.

The Highway Patrol's Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is working to determine the type of vehicle that was involved in the hit-and-run.

If you have any information about this collision or the whereabouts of the vehicle or driver involved, you are urged to contact the South Carolina Highway Patrol at 1-800-768-1501 or you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
