The Valdosta State football web site reads Florence bound, for the 4th time in school history the Blazers will indeed play for a national championship in Florence Alabama on Saturday.
VSU gained almost 500 yards of offense in their 35-19 win at then undefeated Minnesota State Mankato in the national semifinals on Saturday.
VSU climbed out of an early 10-0 hole before the offensive onslaught. It will be the school's second trip to the championship game under head coach David Dean who lead the Blazers to winning it all in 2007.
Saturday's win just a reminder of difficult it is to get back there and why nobody should ever take it for granted.
"Its very very difficult to get there. I look back at Northwest Missouri and they go four years in a row and think how in the world did they do that. Its so hard to get back but I'm so proud of these kids. We started out 2-2 and it didn't look like we were going to get there but these kids hung together they fought together. We're playing well and hopefully we're playing our best football here at the end of the season." Said Dean.
The Blazers will play Winston-Salem at 1:00pm on Saturday in Florence Alabama.
