VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -
Valdosta State is off to a great start with seven wins in their first eight games.
The good news is Blazers head coach Mike Helfer believes his squad can get even better as the season progresses.
The Blazers showed their firepower in Tuesday night's win over Fort Valley State.
VSU was down 12 at halftime but quickly took the lead with a strong run to open the second half.
The good start is also showing head coach Mike Helfer was right to revamp his team after last year's squad won just three Gulf South Conference games.
With a week before their next game, the coach says the plan is to keep building team chemistry.
"I wouldn't say we are lacking in any specific area. It doesn't mean we are great in any area. We just don't have any missing pieces. We just have to continue to get them to play together. Get them on the right page and we will see what happens", said head coach Mike Helfer.
VSU will return to action for a rematch Tuesday at Fort Valley State.
