1 dead, 2 airlifted after two-vehicle collision

SUMTER, COUNTY, SC (WIS) - One person died and two others were airlifted to a hospital in Columbia after two cars collided Tuesday afternoon north of Sumter.

According to the Highway Patrol, the incident happened on Old Camden Road about four miles north of Sumter.

Troopers say a 2003 Mazda and 1997 Dodge collided near Four Bridge Road around 3:35 p.m. 

Investigators say the driver of the Mazda, 59-year-old Larry Jefferson of Rembert, was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Dodge were airlifted to Palmetto Richland Hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

The collision is under investigation.
