WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) -
Two suspects are in custody after a bank robbery and a chase in Walterboro on Friday morning, authorities say.
According to Walterboro Public Safety Chief Otis Rhodes, two men robbed the Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union on Jeffries Boulevard around 10 a.m.
Rhodes said the suspects then led responding officers on a chase on Sidneys Road, which ended near the intersection of Phillips Road when the suspects' vehicle spun out. Shots were fired during the chase, according to Rhodes.
One suspect remained at the car while another took off on foot in a nearby field. He was captured after a brief foot chase, Rhodes said.
Rhodes said officers on scene were able to recover the money stolen and the gun they believe was used in the robbery.
He also said it has not been determined if a bullet hole in the suspects' vehicle's rear windshield was caused by the suspects are law enforcement.
Agents with the State Law Enforcement Division and Colleton County Sheriff's Office deputies also responded to the scene.
The investigation is ongoing. The suspects have not been identified.
