WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A Lexington County deputy is recovering in an area hospital after being hit by a car while directing traffic Thursday morning.

According to Major John Allard, the deputy was working an extra-duty assignment outside the Amazon fulfillment facility on 12th Street extension when he was struck by a car.

Highway Patrol troopers say two deputies were directing traffic as employees left the facility around 6:45 a.m. when one of them was hit by a woman turning left out of the parking lot.

Investigators say her windows were fogged up and she didn't see the deputy who was wearing a reflective vest.

The woman was charged with driving too fast for conditions, according to the Highway Patrol.

Allard said the deputy is expected to be okay.
