HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A newlywed couple traveling home after the Thanksgiving holiday found themselves at odds on the side of the highway.

Joshua Wade Ingram, 34, of Wallace and his new bride were traveling home on Saturday, Nov. 24 just one day after they were married.

The incident report from Horry County Police says they decided to head home because Ingram is a recovering alcoholic and had disappeared for an hour that morning, returning with a strong stench of booze.

While traveling on the highway toward their final destination, his wife explains in the report that Ingram became angered that her 3-year-old daughter spilled water on him, and grabbed her child's head, slamming it into her car seat.

She continues to say she pulled the car over to the side of the road on Highway 501 near Highway 31 and asked her beau to get out, stating he "wasn't going to continue to assault her children."

That's when Ingram reportedly hit his wife twice with a closed fist before he got out of the car.

Police arrived and searched the area for Ingram to no effect, but booking records show he was taken into custody on Monday afternoon and charged with public intoxication, criminal domestic violence and unlawful neglect of a child.

The report states neither the woman nor her child showed signs of physical abuse, but the 3-year-old girl was complaining of a headache.
