LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is looking for a car and driver who hit and killed a pedestrian Saturday night in Lexington County.
Troopers say at about 6 p.m., Saturday, 48-year-old Aaron McGlon of Lexington was attempting to cross Augusta Highway at Oak Drive when a vehicle going north in the southbound lane hit him. The driver did not stop.
"I'm just devastated," said McGlon's mother, Barbara White.
White never thought she'd feel this much pain, shortly after a happy holiday.
"Right now I'm planning a funeral for my son, my first born," said White. "You don't expect to bury your children, you just don't do that."
Troopers say McGlon had just left a convenience store near the Barnyard Flea Market when he was hit crossing the street to go home
White says another son called her with the bad news.
"I said is he alright? He said no mommy, he's dead," said White. "I don't remember anything else after that. I just started screaming."
The news was shocking to White because she had just seen spent Thanksgiving with her son.
"He said mommy I love you, I said I love you too," White added. "That was the last time I saw him."
"It's very sad to know someone can strike a pedestrian in the roadway and not get out to assist," said LCpl.. Brent Kelly with the Highway Patrol.
Coroner Harry Harman said McGlon died at the scene.
Troopers are looking for a light-colored Cadillac, possibly early to mid-90's model, with front end damage and slim tail lights. It was last seen heading toward West Columbia.
"It's going to have front end damage possible windshield busted too," said Kelly. "I'm told the victim rolled up onto the hood of the vehicle."
"If you know anything about this call us," said Kelly. "This is someone's family member left laying there in the road."
"Have a heart turn yourself in," said White. "I don't know what led up to the circumstance of you hitting my son, but please turn yourself in. How can you live with this?"
If you have any information that can help investigators, call Crimestoppers at 1-888-Crime-SC
