Services planned for Upstate soldier killed in Afghanistan

GREER, S.C. (WYFF) — Services have been planned for a soldier from the Upstate who was killed fighting in Afghanistan.

24-year-old Sgt. Channing Hicks of Greer was killed along with a soldier from Arkansas when their unit was attacked with IEDs and small arms fire.

According to Wood Mortuary, Hicks' body will arrive at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport Monday at 1 p.m. and a procession will travel from GSP to Wood Mortuary on West Poinsett Street in
Greer.

Visitation is Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church in Greer. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Fairview Baptist.

Hicks' burial will be at Wood Memorial Park in Duncan following the service.

The public is welcome to attend the visitation and the service.

Hicks was part of the 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley, Kan.
