Volunteers feed Thanksgiving dinner to needy

Posted: Updated:

About 150 volunteers from St. Peter's Catholic and  First Baptist Churches served Thanksgiving dinner to hundreds of needy people Thursday.

The churches hosted their annual interfaith Thanksgiving dinner at Carolina Coliseum.

Volunteers packed about 975 dinners that went out to nursing homes and faith based organizations Thursday morning. After that, there was a sit down dinner.

"It's a real good experience" said volunteer Michael Parks. "You know, you get to help a lot of local people in Columbia. But more importantly, it warms your spirit a little bit and you realize how good you've got it. Just in every day life."

This is the 22nd year the dinner has been held. A total of about 1,700 dinners were served.
