CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A 22-year-old Summerville woman is facing a felony driving under the influence charge after deputies say she lost control of her speeding car, which ended up on fire off Interstate 26.

Charleston County Sheriff's Office Major Jim Brady said Kourtnie Burge lost control of her white Nissan 300ZX a little after 3 a.m. near the Bennet Yard Overpass, causing serious injuries to a male passenger in the car.

Brady said South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers first saw Burge speed by him in the eastbound lanes further inland. He tried to catch up to the car, which was traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour, but lost sight of the vehicle twice.

Eventually, Brady said the trooper saw a bumper in the road near the Bennett Yard Overpass, and was able to find that Nissan burning on Louise Drive, which fronts the interstate.

Troopers say Burge struck an inside retaining wall on I-26 and then flipped onto Louise Drive, landing upside down and catching on fire.

North Charleston Fire Department crews extinguished the fire and removed the entrapped victim.

He was taken to Medical University of South Carolina for treatment of "potentially life-threatening injuries," Brady said.

Burge was taken to the Charleston County Detention Center.
