RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Richland County Sheriff's Deputies say a sister will not be charged for shooting her brother during a domestic argument Saturday morning.  Deputies say the woman was defending herself.

Deputies were called to a home in the 1500 block of Crossing Creek Rd. at about 3 a.m. for a report of a shooting.

Deputy Curtis Wilson says 42-year-old Joe Bales got into an argument with his girlfriend and the fight became physical. Wilson says Bales' sister, who lives at the home, heard the fight and tried to stop it.

According to deputies, the sister pulled a handgun, and during a physical fight with her brother, fired several times.

Bales was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds to his upper body.  His condition has not been released.

The sister was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Bales will be charged with Criminal Domestic Violence and Assault and Battery. Deputies continue to investigate the shooting.
