FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) - Noise from howitzers are expected to rattle central South Carolina as the Army National Guard trains at Fort Jackson.
The Army says Saturday's activities are being conducted by the Guard's 1st Battalion, 178th Field Artillery unit at the McCrady training center. The soldiers are slated to practice combat operations all day and into the night.
Jones says the Guard makes every effort to keep the noise at a minimum from its M-109 howitzers, but due to wind directions, the noise from the howitzer guns and cannon can disperse over a wide area.
The spokesman says residents in the area should be aware that the units are in training and are conducting the weekend practice to remain able to enter combat when needed.
