It's time for the annual Carolina-Clemson Blood Drive

For 28 years, University of South Carolina and Clemson fans have been making something positive out of their football rivalry.

The 28th annual Carolina/Clemson Blood Drive is underway. The school that gets the most people to donate blood in its name earns a trophy to be awarded at the annual Clemson-Carolina football game.

Donating is not limited to students or people affiliated with the schools.  Any fan can donate in the name of their favorite school.

Here is a schedule of the blood drive location in Columbia:

Monday, Nov. 12:

  • Russell House Ballroom, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Blood Mobile at Thomas Cooper Library, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

 Tuesday, Nov. 13 (USC Alumni Day):     

  • Russell House Ballroom, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Blood Mobile at Darla Moore School of Business, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Blood Mobile at Thomas Cooper Library, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

 Wednesday, Nov. 14:  

  • Russell House Ballroom, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Blood Mobile at Thomas Cooper Library, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Blood Mobile at Colonial Life Arena, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

 Thursday, Nov. 15:       

  • Russell House Ballroom, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Blood Mobile in front of Thomas Cooper Library, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Blood Mobile in Greek Village (next to the Strom), 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Blood Mobile at Carolina Coliseum, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

 Friday, Nov. 16:            

  • Russell House Ballroom, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Blood Mobile at Darla Moore School of Business, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Blood Mobile at Thomas Cooper Library, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

All presenting blood donors at the University of South Carolina will receive a commemorative blood drive T-shirt and a variety of free food.

Over the past 27 years of competition, the universities have collected more than 90,000 units of blood, potentially saving more than 270,000 lives. The Carolina contingent has donated approximately 45,000 units of blood and took home the trophy last year with a total of 4,079 presenting donors to Clemson's 3,041 presenting donors.

While the University of South Carolina has won the blood drive competition the past four years in a row, Clemson University currently leads the competition with 14 blood drive wins to Carolina's 13 wins.

The blood drive trophy will be awarded to the winning team at the game on Nov. 24 at Clemson Memorial Stadium.
