Sheriff: No evidence found in new search related to missing woman

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities say no new evidence turned up during an Upstate search in connection with the case of a missing West Ashley woman, Gayle McCaffrey.

Major Jim Brady said Charleston County Sheriff's Office investigators and workers with the CUE Center concluded their search of an area off Freeman Bridge Road, in Easley, SC, around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Robert McCaffrey, Gayle McCaffrey's husband, has a family home on that road.  Sheriff Al Cannon announced McCaffrey as the prime suspect in her disappearance earlier this year, but admitted all evidence investigators had gathered was circumstantial.

Brady said the location being searched has been an area under consideration and one that investigators wanted to be able to eliminate and the opportunity to work with the CUE Center presented itself.

The search is part of the ongoing investigation of the disappearance of Gayle McCaffrey and is not based on new information in the case, Brady added.

McCaffrey was reported missing from her Limestone Boulevard home by Robert McCaffrey on March 18.

Robert McCaffrey told deputies that he last saw his wife one day prior to that around 10 p.m. before he left the residence to travel to Easley. Mrs. McCaffrey has not been seen or heard from since being reported missing.

Anyone who may have information in this case is asked to contact the Charleston County Sheriff's Office at 843-202-1700 or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
